A volcanic glass library for the Pacific Northwest : Problems and prospects

Des verres volcaniques ont ete produits dans les regions montagneuses de la partie occidentale de l'Amerique du Nord et plusieurs furent utilises en prehistoire pour fabriquer des outils, des armes et d'autres objets. Nous avons caracterise les elements secondaires et rares d'un echantillonage de verre volcanique provenant de la region situee entre le Nord de la Californie et l'est de l'Alaska. Nos recherches se penchent autant sur la caracterisation d'autres sources de verres volcaniques que sur l'identification des sources probables des matieres premieres d'artefacts retrouves dans ou pres de la region d'etude. Nous decrivons l'inventaire des caracterisations des sources de la bibliotheque de l'universite Simon Fraser. De plus, nous offrons un exemple de l'utilisation de cette reference pour analyser les objets en verre volcanique recueillis entre 1989 et 1990 sur le site de Wilson Butte Cave en Idaho
