Practical Application of Uncertainty-Based Validation Assessment

This paper presents the validation assessment of a simulation of the transient dynamic response of a complex assembly subjected to impulsive shock loading. The assembly contained threaded, bolted, and tape joint interfaces. Response features for the validation assessment were chosen based on the needs of the customer. Model parameters were selected using judgment and sensitivity analysis. Parametric uncertainty analysis of the simulation results was performed using both meta-model Monte Carlo and Latin hypercube approaches. Replicate tests were performed to estimate the experimental uncertainties. The simulation and experimental outcomes were compared to assess the validity of the model.
