As one of the five basic skills of learners, writing is to acquire in the course of learning EFL (English as a Foreign Language). Writing is a complex process of language communication and is also a creative thinking process. This paper tries to explore learners’ strategies in English writing through the analysis of strategies of avoidance, preparation, language switch and strategy of spelling, and explain some implications of the learners’ strategies. It is important to teach learners writing, because learners need to know how to write particular kinds of writing such as letters, reports, reply to advertisements, and they need to know some of the writings’ special conventions. Teaching strategies for helping learners throughout the writing process include motivating learners in writing process, preparation for writing, avoidance of translated writing, and effective error correction.
