Numerical analysis of the electric field and temperature changes around carotid stents

When exposed to RF fields, metal objects implanted in a human body can cause enhancement of local SAR around the objects. Numerical dosimetry has revealed that the enhancement of the SAR due to the metal objects is limited to a very small area around the tip or corner of the metal objects. However, ICNIRP do not address human bodies with implanted metal objects. The guidelines do not consider the enhancement of SAR around the objects and the malfunction of medical implant equipment. The aim of our study was to use numerical simulation for analyzing the temperature changes around carotid stents exposed to high frequency electric fields.
