The chemical composition of some stony meteorites

Abstract New evidence is presented for the existence of two main groups among the chondrites. These are the H and L groups of Urey and Craig (1953), with 28 and 22 per cent total iron, respectively. Subdivision of the H-group into subgroups of different chemical composition is discussed. New analyses of twenty-one stony meteorites, including eleven carbonaceous chondrites, are presented.
