Monte-Carlo Simulation on Multi-Processor Supercomputers: The Q2R Model

Traditionally, many-body methods are applied to physical systems like atoms, nucleons, nuclei, electrons, and alike. However, the very same methods can also be applied to rather different systems like neural networks or computer networks. The case of rather simple computing elements networked together in a simple, uniform and regular way has been considered under the heading “cellular automata”. In this paper I wish to consider the infinite two-dimensional square lattice where at each site a very simple computing element is located, with connections to its four nearest neighbours.
