Making Waves in Engineering Mathematics Teaching: The Benefits of Scientific Notebook

Scientific Notebook is a combined word-processing and computer-algebra package that can be used both in the classroom and in the computer laboratory to graph functions and to perform routine mathematical calculations. In this paper we describe how the use of Scientific Notebook has been integrated into the teaching of engineering calculus at Edith Cowan University. We will illustrate our approach with examples from hydrodynamics, including the flow past a circular obstacle and flow past a Joukowski airfoil.
