This research presents a method for prioritization new information technology (IT) projects using a method of multi-criteria analysis and modeling of the business process using the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) notation. The IT department of an educational institution was used as a case study. At first the process of prioritizing new projects of sector was modeled, then survey criteria was carried out, assigning weights and values divided between two evaluations: management and IT. Through the implementation of PROMETHEE method a ranking is obtained using as example six projects of IT department. Two rankings with management and IT reviews are presented separately to compare both. Analysis of the results shows that it is feasible to use a well-defined process in portfolio management.
