Random Two-Dimensional Cellular Structures

Two-dimensional cellular structures abound in nature and they crop up in a variety of contexts in the scientific literature. An early example [1] is shown in Fig. 1. D’A. W. THOMPSON described this and numerous other interesting examples in his classic work On Growth and Form [2]. He sensed that such patterns often have much in common, even when they are formed in very different systems.
