In the reconstruction of high-quality images from the CCD of a primary color filter array, frequently used for digital still cameras, one of the key issues is color interpolation. This paper describes new color interpolation techniques on a 32-bit MCU and presents evaluation results from the viewpoints of color restoration, processing time, and S/N ratio. Considering the processing time, the correlation of color has been calculated from the pixel range of 5 × 5 and different color interpolation techniques are applied to color elements. Good color restoration was achieved when assuming that the frequency element in color elements and the variation ratio between them were nearly equal for interpolating G and R/B, respectively. High S/N ratio was also achieved when assuming that the variation ratio between color elements and the difference between them was nearly equal at interpolating G and R/B, respectively.
