Study on Real-time Lightning Current Monitoring System for Overhead Wire

Aimed at difficulties in locating the lightning stroke point and ascertaining the pattern of stroke currently, monitoring and gauging methods for stroke to transmission line and overhead ground line, current path in towers and flashover path of insulator strings are achieved through studies on current path of stoke to transmission line and calculating current of stroke to tower. The monitoring system realizes obtaining stroke parameters such as stroked tower, stroked line, stroke polarity, lightning current waveform and stroke pattern etc. After 1 year s spot operation, it successfully monitored the stroke to 110 kV Wangguan transmission line on April 22nd, 2007, and attained the relative parameters. This is the first time the waveform of natural stroke current has been obtained. The lightning waveform obtained by this monitoring device is a damped oscillation wave alternating fiercely in a very short time. It can reflect the actual lightning current wave much better, provide recension basis for lightning protection design and enhance the lightning stroke withstanding level of the transmission line.
