Root, Successive-Cyclic and Feature-Splitting Internal Merge: Implications for Feature-Inheritance and Transfer.

phon specification is also part of phi/Case-valuation. As in Step 1and 2, [Phon] on V and DP are both specified abstractly, which makes it possible that WH is realized as /hum/ and the verb as /si/ later in the morphological component. Notice that [Phon] is automatically specified as a consequence of Case-valuation, but [Phon] is not an 7 I believe that this phonological specification does not violate the Inclusiveness Condition. I conjecture that the phonological specification is another type of feature-valuation like the kind [uCase] or [uPhi] undergoes. Another possibility is that [phon] contains every possibility of Case-realization e.g. /hi/, /hiz/, /him/. Under this assumption, phon specification deletes unnecessary candidates and leaving only one in the representation. This idea seems to be reminiscent of the checking theory.
