Air pressure measurements. [Operation CASTLE]

Project 3.1 of Operation CASTLE was concerned with the measurement of pressures existing on the surfaces of a non-responsive cubical structure from Shot 3. The analysis of data was not a portion of this particular project but the data will be analyzed by other agencies and used in computations of structural loading under air blast. The definition of free-field conditions in the vicinity of the structure constituted a vital portion of the project. Free-field conditions have been analyzed and the results are included in this report. Of a total of 65 gages, 63 gave usable data, which are reported in the form of both tracings and tabulations. One Q gage and one pressure gage gave recordings which are obviously wrong and these data are therefore not reported. Due to the low yield of the shot, conditions were far from optimum so that the usefulness of the data was impaired.
