File compression is an important aspect in the development of information technology. The exchange of information today requires speed in the delivery of information. The speed of delivery depends on the size of the information. One solution to the above problem is to perform compression compression. There are many methods of data compression that exist today, but in this paper will be discussed the working principle of Arithmetic Coding algorithm with implementation using VB Net 2010. Analysis of the performance of this algorithm aims to find out the performance of this algorithm in audio files berformat * .MP3 and on video files * .Mp4. In this system there is a compression and decompression stage. The compression stage aims to compress the audio / video file size, while the decompression stage aims to restore the size of the audio / video file to its original size.
