Low-Distortion CMOS Amplifier Design

Besides noise and parasitic coupling of spurious signals, harmonic distortion is the major signal-corrupting factor in high-performance data acquisition systems. As data processing is more and more performed by mixed analog and digital circuits, the distortion specifications for the analog building blocks become more and more severe, in order to fully benefit from the almost unlimited dynamic range of the digital circuits. For example, while the twenty years old Hifi norm required a harmonic distortion of -60 dB, modern audio equipment for compact disks performs at least a dynamic range of a 100 dB. This illustrates the increasing importance of design techniques for low-distortion analog circuits.
