The objective of this study is to compare CLTD method, the manual method with dynamic thermal loads estimation method, based on Transfer Function Method (TFM). Simulations for peak cooling and heating load calculation were undertaken by the DOE-2.1C and the E20-Ⅱ building energy analysis programs. The results are summarized as follow. Peak cooling load, calculated by CLTD method could be 30% higher than that of unsteady state simulation results, and peak heating load could be 38% higher than that of simulation results, too. These results show the limitation of widely used manual load calculation methods in particular situations. These discrepancies especially make over-designs at the design stage of large building HVAC systems, and which makes the remnants of space, the overestimation of initial investment and the loss of energy. Thus, loads estimation with dynamic thermal loads calculation method is more important nowadays at the beginning of design process for the energy conservation.
