Potential and limits of dimensional analysis for the design of chemical facilities

Abstract It is demonstrated that complete similarity between laboratory tests and actual chemical facilities is difficult to achieve. This is due either to physical causes or to difficulties in maintaining geometric similarity. The alternative is to maintain partial similarity; this, however, requires the results from different experiments each of which is carried out with conditions which are constant in different dimensionless groups.
