Velocity filtering of image sequences via heuristic search

Velocity ltering is a method of detecting weak point targets which move with a constant velocity across the image plane. A previous study [1] proposed implementation of velocity lter banks by a heuristic search of possible target trajectories. The algorithms were veried via application to onendimensional imagery. This study extends the method to function with twondimensional imagery taken from a moving camera platform. Issues such as registration/alignment effects and the estimation of background scenery are considered. A bestnrst search criterion is shown to outperform pixelnrst search at low SNR. Pixelnrst search is shown to use minimal computational resources at moderate SNR.
