Proposal for construction and demolition waste management system in Croatia

Construction and demolition waste management system is of priority for each community. The most significant for the whole system is to raise awareness of all stakeholder. In general, efficiencyof the system depends on several factors: existing regulations, their enforcement, interests of all parties and application possibilities. It also depends on the quantities and waste types that are different for various areas. The Croatian waste management system is still at very beginning. Following the examples from sophisticated European waste management systems, the intention is to gather all regional specifics that will be the base for the establishment of a Croatian system. It is very important to create quality records of resources, quantities and distributions of construction waste as well as waste separation system in the place of production. That will help to establish efficient construction waste management system that will precisely define rights and responsibilities, and especially possible use of recycled materials. In civil engineering, recycled material can be widely used for road construction, soil stabilisation, drainage layers, and additional material for concrete production, etc. It is important to include recycled materials in standardization and to define incentive schemes for their re-use.
