Traffic load heterogeneity in WDM EPONs

Heterogeneity in terms of traffic load can severely degrade the performance of WDM PON networks. In this paper, we propose a new granting scheme called Individual Maximum Windows (IMW) that grants optical network units (ONU) by tacking traffic load dissimilarity into account. The IMW employs multiple maximum transmission windows algorithm and reduces traffic load dissimilarity effect, thus resulting in increasing the network performance and decreasing packet drop ratio.
