Digital broadcasting system and processing method

A digital broadcasting transmitting/receiving system and a data processing method are provided to be suitable for transmitting enhanced data and be strong against a noise. A traffic information message generating unit generates a traffic information message including state information including at least one between predictive information about an interval passing time and predictive information about an interval average speed and position information corresponding to the predictive information. An E-VSB(Enhanced-Vestigial SideBand) preprocessor(401) encodes traffic information data including the traffic information message, and generates a traffic information data packet including the encoded traffic information data and predetermined known data. A multiplexer(402) multiplexes the preprocessed traffic information data packet and a main data packet, and outputs the multiplexed data. A trellis encoder(407) has at least one memory, and performs the trellis coding of the data outputted from the multiplexer(402). If the data outputted from the multiplexer(402) are the beginning of a continued known data sequence, the trellis encoder(407) initializes the memory by the initialization data. The traffic information message includes message management information including at least one of message identification information indicating that the state information is CTT(Congestion and/or Travel Time) state information, version information, and a generation time of the traffic information message.
