Sylvatic hosts of Rhodnius pallescens (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) nymphs in the Panama Canal Zone.

Precipitin tests performed on 200 blood-engorged Rhodnius pallescens nymphs collected from Corozo palm trees ( Scheelea zonensis ) in the Panama Canal Zone revealed the following animals as blood meal sources: 91 (45.5%) Didelphidae (opossums), 72 (36%) Myrmecophagidae (anteaters), 15 (7.5%) Bradypodidae (sloths), 9 (4.5%) Echimyidae (spiny rats), 7 (3.5%) Sciuridae (squirrels), 4 (2%) Cracidae (curassows and guans) and 2 (I %) Sauria (lizards).
