Chapter 25 – Construction Management

Construction projects originate with a need. Just imagine a fast growing company like Facebook. Due to their growth, they need more computer programmers, engineers, managers, secretaries, and hardware specialists. These people need a place to work. The upper management of Facebook decides that they need a new building. They consult with an architect, who draws a building. Then come the engineers. Structural engineers design the beams, columns, and slabs. Mechanical engineers design the boilers, hot water piping, heating systems, air handlers, and air conditioning units. Electrical engineers design the lighting, power outlets, switches, and transformers. Network engineers design the computer networks, TV cables, and telephone lines.
