Analysis of time-domain characteristics in step response of non-minimum phase linear systems

In this paper, step response of non-minimum phase linear systems is studied for presence of unique time-domain characteristics directly linked to non-minimum phase and indirectly to minimum phase systems. The identification of the presence of these characteristics is done using theorems employing transfer function model only. The utility of these theorems is illustrated using the step response of a Real-Time experimental hardware setup. Besides identification, to compare the magnitude of initial undershoot, discussion on a short analysis is done. Furthermore, a practical non-minimum phase system (DC-DC Boost converter) is analyzed for detection of these effects in its step response, as well as comments on the effect of different circuit on the magnitude of initial undershoot of step response are made.
