Performance Analysis of Hybrid Routing in MANET with Group Mobility for Search and Rescue Applications

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are self-organizing, infrastructure-less networks without any centralized administration. When it comes to emergency situations where search and rescue operations have to be implemented in area without proper communication infrastructure, MANET can play major role. Consider the search and rescue in different situations, viz. an area affected by natural disaster and a military tactical mission in country borders. The rescue personals have to perform the operation in groups while remaining communicated. The mobility models are used to pattern the movement of the troops in such areas. In this paper, we have examined the reference region group mobility (RRGM) model along with the routing protocols AODV, OLSR, and ZRP and calculated the parameters such as throughput, average delay, and packet delivery ratio for each. Out of all, the hybrid routing protocol ZRP overperformed the other two routing protocols.
