An overview of electric vehicle charging guidance strategies in highway applications

As electric vehicles become more popular on a large scale, the construction of fast charging stations along motorways will provide the conditions for electric vehicles to travel long distances, and at the identical time, the issue of the versatility of the charging needs of electric vehicles also arises. The very occasional access of electric vehicles to motorway charging stations turns to some extent into a kind of charging problem for electrical vehicles in the light of their natural driving attributes. In order to solve this solution, various orderly charging guidance strategies are needed to narrow down the variability of users' charging demands and make charging at highway charging stations more convenient and time-saving for users. This paper firstly analyses the charging scenarios in which no guidance mechanism is involved, secondly categorizes the existing strategies for electric vehicle charging guidance research and presents a comparative analysis of the achieved results, and finally, the inadequacies of existing research are put forward and future research into guiding strategies for electric vehicle charging at motorway charging stations is examined for refinement.
