Microtubules of polyaniline as new microwave absorbent materials

The microtubules of polyaniline (PANI) with room temperature conductivity of 3.5–2.6 S/cm were synthesized by a template-free method. The structural characterizations by UV-vis and FT-IR spectra as well as X-ray diffraction showed that the polymer chain of the resulting microtubules was identical to the PANI doped with HCl, but its crystallinity was higher than that of PANI-HCl. Moreover, the resulting microtubules exhibited an unusual magnetic loss at the microwave frequency (f = 1–18 GHz) arose from order arrangement of polaron as charge carrier caused by a tubular morphology.
