Emerging Business, Emerging Field: Entrepreneurship and the Family Firm

This article proposes that the fields of entrepreneurship and family business consist of separate and distinct but overlapping domains. The intersection of the two domains provides a unique perspective from which to examine six strategic management issues: leadership, culture, boards of directors, life cycles, strategic management processes, and ethics and values. Gartner's eight principal ideas or themes In the study of entrepreneurship are used to describe the areas of commonality of entrepreneurship and family business. The Gartner framework has implications both for scholars and practitioners.
