Conjunctival characteristics of contact lens wearers and nonwearers and their association with symptomatology.

Unlike corneal staining, conjunctival staining has not been extensively investigated. However, interest in the association between conjunctival anomalies and dry eye symptomatology recently has increased. Histopathological studies have pointed to a modified goblet cell secretion in dry eye pathology 1and a reduction in goblet cell count in long-term contact lens wearers.2
