CARS thermometry in a sooting flame

Abstract Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) has been employed to map the temperature field with high spatial precision throughout a small, highly sooting, laminar propane diffusion flame. The temperature is ascertained by comparing the experimental CARS signatures from N2 recorded on an optical multichannel analyzer with computer-synthesized N2 spectra.
