Design and implementation of IoT system and equipment for lightning parameter monitoring

Lightning is a familiar natural phenomenon, which is heard sometimes that thunder causes damages to the electrical appliances and facilities. So the lightning protection device has been a necessity to make sure the security of production and living. Earthing is a very important part of a lightning protection system. We propose a earthing method that solves the problem of high cost of the traditional method, design and realize an Internet-of-Things (IoT) system for lightning parameter monitoring. The nodes of wireless sensor network (WSN) measure the value of grounding resistance and many other operation parameters. The operation parameters data is reported and send to the data server through the wireless gateway. All the real-time data is processed and showed by the server through a lightning parameter monitoring software. The hardware of IoT node used in the lightning parameter monitoring system and sensing the parameters successfully. Experiment is carried out and the result shows that the system is effective.
