Smart browser: Network measurement system based on perfSONAR framework

To monitor and diagnose problems on a wide-area network, there is an increasing trend to deploy measurement frameworks such as perfSONAR (Performance focused Service-Oriented Network monitoring Architecture). perfSONAR is a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), where a set of elementary functions for multi-domain network monitoring has been separately defined and provided as services. It has an unprecedented ability to integrate measurement tools, data archives and visualization tools as web services and provides a fully flexible and easy extensible solution to network measurement. Today, an internet browser is not limited to only return links of the search results. In this paper, we resort to Mozilla Firefox Browser and create an add-on, which is responsible for measuring Network Performance from an End User Viewpoint. Combining the advantage of perfSONAR network effect supervision, availably supervise and through our smart browser component (NMS) to measure and monitor network performance, we can make your surfing life a lot easier. In this paper, we provide a novel Network measurement system based on perfSONAR architecture, called perfNMS. Real-time network measurements can be used to improve performance of existing Internet services and support the deployment of new services dependent on performance information. In this paper, we describe the development of an end-user friendly network measurement that provides end-users with an extremely simple and quick way to get measurement results.
