A Low-Sidelobe-Level Variable Inclination Continuous Transverse Stub Antenna with Two-Types Stubs

The deterioration of the sidelobe level (SLL) will significantly reduce the performance of the antenna used for satellite communications. Sidelobe level suppression is often neglected in the design of Variable Inclination Continuous Transverse Stub (VICTS) antenna with high-gain and wide bandwidth. A VICTS antenna operating at 13 GHz-15 GHz with low SLL design is presented in this paper. The radiation plate of the antenna is composed of two sets of radiation stubs with different radiation efficiency. By using the parallel plate waveguide (PPW) and nonlinear slow-wave structure with gradually decreasing height, the aperture field of the antenna is controlled to be tapered to suppress the SLL. The simulation results show that the SLL can be kept below -19 dB and the return loss is less than 15 dB in the scan range of 6.7° to 53.4°.
