The Existence and Uniqueness of Lyons' Group

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the existence and uniqueness of Lyons' group. Lyons considered a finite simple group G possessing an involution whose centralizer in G is isomorphic to A, the two fold covering group of A 11 . He determined the character table and structure of G. The chapter describes that a group G satisfying Lyons' hypothesis exists and is unique up to isomorphism.
