Quadratic bidirectional buck-boost converter

A non-inverting quadratic buck-boost converter realized with two half-bridges is presented. The function is explained, the voltage and current stress of the devices are derived, and dimensioning equations are deduced. Simulation results and measurements from a small model converter are shown. The converter is especially useful when very high or very low voltage transformations are necessary and can be used also as a motor drive for permanent DC machines and in solar applications.
