The invention relates to a multi-path data transmission system and method assisted by a distributed transit server network. The multi-path data transmission system and method assisted by the distributed transit server network comprises an index server, transit servers and client sides, wherein the index server, the transit servers and the client sides are connected through a network; the multiple transit servers form a transit server overlay network; each module conducts exchange and communication on a management level and a data level, and information inquiry and information management service relative to the transit server overlay network are achieved on the management level; data transmission between client sides is achieved on the data level, and a data transmission passage is established and the data transmission service is provided for the connection between client sides; the index server is located on the management level and used for undertaking a management responsibility of the transit server overlay network; the transit server receives management of the index server on the management level and takes charge of transiting data for the transmission passage on the data level; the client side is located on the data level and is a port for achieving the data transmission for users.
