Single crystals of bacterial and synthetic poly(3-hydroxyvalerate)

Des cristaux simples et lamellaires de chaines repliees de poly(β-hydroxyvalerate) (PHV) bacterien homopolymerique, de PHV synthetique racemique et de poly(β-hydroxybutyrate-co-β-hydroxyvalerate) (P(HB-co-HV)) a haut contenu en HV (superieur a 70 mol%) ont ete obtenus a partir de solutions ethanoliques diluees. Ils presentent tous la meme forme carree en opposition a la forme en lattes caracteristique des cristaux simples de PHV et des cristaux simples de P(HB-co-HV) a faible contenu en HV. Les patrons de diffraction d'electrons enregistres a partir des regions selectionnees de ces cristaux simples etaient identiques et permettaient la comparaison des parametres observes pour notre cellule unitaire de base avec ceux derives de la diffraction de rayons X par des fibres. Ces resultats procurent une confirmation visuelle et quantitative du phenomene d'isomorphisme et confirment la symetrie orthorhombique P2 1 2 1 2 1 . La perfection plus faible de la morphologie des cristaux simples de l'homopolymere de PHV synthetique, comparee a celle des echantillons bacteriens, est attribuable a une segregation des stereoblocs selon la chiralite des blocs pendant la cristallisation.
