One hundred years of mouse genetics: an intellectual history. I. The classical period (1902-1980).

THE year that just ended marked the 100th birthday of mouse genetics. In light of the explosion of interest in recent years in using genetics to understand mammalian physiology and development, especially human disease processes, it is worth recounting the evolution of this field over its first
