The construction of a GIS database for the historical center of San Giuliano di Puglia

After the earthquake that struck the Molise Region (Italy) on October 31st, 2002, some ENEA researchers were involved in several post-seismic activities in the epicentral village of San Giuliano di Puglia. Ancient and notable masonry heritage structures and all the whole historical center suffered severe damage or partial collapse. Thanks to an ENEA proposal and the cooperation of the Ferrara University (Faculty of Architecture), four MSc. Theses have been carried out, regarding the construction of a GIS database for the historical center of San Giuliano di Puglia, in order to integrate two different approaches: urban planning (regarding the whole historical center); building vulnerability (for a specific inner sector, very interesting for its position, morphology, patrimonial value and architectonic features); restoration (in most vulnerable structural unit).
