Suprarenal vena caval thrombosis and pulmonary embolism associated with a benign ovarian cyst

Introduction Venous thromboembolism remains a major source of morbidity and mortality in gynaecological practice. Risk factors include malignancy, advanced age, the oral contraceptive pill, large pelvic masses and pelvic surgery. We present a rare case of a pulmonary embolism associated with an inferior vena caval thrombosis extending into the left renal vein in a patient with a benign ovarian cyst.
