A comparison between Japanese and American structural design codes for LWRs

Abstract The review is dealing with the historical development and the present situation of Japanese codes and standards directly related to structural strength design and fabrication of structures in commercial light water reactor nuclear power plants emphasizing a comparison between Japanese and American codes and standards. The paper describes first the system and history of Japanese regulatory technical standards, and gives then a comparison between MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) Notification and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, followed by a discussion on the topical subjects.
