In 1952, the New York City Youth Board embarked upon the first prospective study to determine whether the Glueck Social Prediction Table can discriminate between potential delinquents and nondelinquents as early as the age of six. The sample reported upon consisted of 244 boys entering elementary school in two high delinquency areas. Caseworkers interviewed the mothers of each of the boys and secured background data which would enable scoring on the Glueck Social Prediction Table. Two independent raters scored all cases and noted the boys' chances of becoming delinquents. For the next ten years, each of the boys was followed up through the schools and police and social agencies.
