Energy efficient relaying PHY-MAC strategy for LTE-advanced networks

In this paper, we propose an efficient relaying scheme for the LTE advanced networks where different relay nodes (RNs) are deployed at the edge of the cell. The proposed strategy makes use of the omnidirectional relays coverage in all the cell's sector to define a multi-region transmission configuration. The first type of region guarantees to achieve a target spectral efficiency with a threshold probability when only one transmitter is active. In the second type of region, two transmitters are simultaneously active and cooperate through a coding scheme to ensure a better quality of service at the user equipment (UE). Numerical results show that this strategy outperforms the orthogonal frame division performances in term of the spectral efficiency distribution all over the cell and the energy consumption.
