Switchable patterned centre-conductor CPW filter using RF MEMS

A novel switchable coplanar waveguide (CPW) notch filter is developed using a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) switch element to perturb a patterned CPW centre-conductor line. The switch element is easily integrated with the CPW due to isolation of DC bias from RF signal paths. An equivalent lumped-element model has been developed for simulation of the electrical response of the filter. The measured notch frequency was shifted from 24.75 to 22.25 GHz, with greater then 20-dB rejection in both states. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
