KALTA: a BASIC program for simulation of the experimental determination of the phase diagram for the system kalsilite—silica

Abstract The study of phase relationships in silicate systems at high temperatures requires a high-temperature furnace. KALTZ is a program which simulates experimental procedures using such a furnace to study the system kalsilite-silica. For each run various messages related to the simulation are displayed on the CRT, and prompts are issued for input of parameters including charge composition and quench temperature. An output message then is issued indicating phases present. Input and output parameters are saved in a data file and data graph. Inspection of these data influence decisions on the direction of future experiments. File and graph printouts provide for the convenient construction of the phase diagram for this system.
