On Horizontal Dynamic Effects on Palletized Goods during Road Transport

Load: Goods, referring to either all goods to be transported or one or more part(s) of it. Pallet: Empty pallet. Palletized goods: The load on a single pallet. Pallet load: Pallet with the load on it. BP side of a pallet: Shortest side of a pallet, in the case of a pallet having a square footprint, the direction perpendicular to the top planches. LP side of a pallet: Longest side of a pallet, in the case of a pallet having square pallet footprint, the direction of the top planches. Load unit: One or more pallet loads stacked on top of each other and loaded simultaneously. Underhang: Difference between the footprint of the pallet and the footprint of the actual load on the pallet if the load is smaller. Overhang: Difference between the footprint of the pallet and the footprint of the actual load on the pallet if the load is larger. Secondary packaging: Packaging to group a number of products together for easier manipulation Transport packaging: Packaging to keep the goods in place on the pallet. Load unit type: Load units which have identical mechanical properties, typically all load units of identical products produced on one single packaging line. Load unit rigidity: Measure of susceptibility to relative movements and deformations within a load unit, quantified according to the standard EUMOS 40509. Acceleration factor ka: acceleration divided by gravitational acceleration g. Mass m: mass of a load unit. Weight G: weight of a pallet load, a load unit or other quantity of goods. Gravitational acceleration g: 9.81 m/s.
