The most frequent deviations from sampling correctness result from insufficient cutter width and from excessive cutter speed. The author reports research on cutter width and speed. Tests confirmed that the critical cutter width is 3 x the maximum fragment diameter, for materials coarser than 3 mm. A minimum cutter width of 10 min is recommended. (2 refs.)
