In-situ monitoring of PMD and PDL in a traffic-carrying transatlantic fiber-optic system

We report the direct monitoring of PMD and PDL in a traffic-carrying transatlantic fibre-optic system (TAT-14). The impact of transmitter polarization scrambling in the measured results is analyzed and verified by the measured results.
