Mobile Content in Malaysia: Demand and Supply Investigations

The goal of this paper is to examine the mobile content market in Malaysia from both consumers’ and providers’ perspectives. The consumers’ side of the study enables better understanding of the demands and consumers’ preferences in the mobile content market. On the other hand, looking into the providers in Malaysia allows the identification of business model adopted, challenges and future trend in the market. This study takes two approaches in looking into the research problem. Selfadministrated survey is adopted in the demand side investigation which involves end-consumers, whereas qualitative interview is deployed in the supplier side investigation which involves providers of mobile contents. The findings of this study could assist the practitioner especially mobile content developers to understand the market in Malaysia, and enable them to serve their customers better. Additionally, the preliminary findings in this study can be the starting points for future empirical research that rigorously examines the mobile content market.
