A Hyperstable Discrete Model Reference Adaptive Control System

Abstract The extension to discrete time systems of previous results obtained via hyperstability theory in the field of adaptive model following control systems is investigated. A simple recursive discrete algorithm is derived which allows combined proportional and integral adaptation of two gain matrices working on the input and the state vectors of the process. Attention is focused on the practical implementation of the adaptation mechanism and suitable approximations are indicated. The performances of the resulting control system are illustrated by hybrid simulations. The practical usefulness of the adaptive control technique is demonstrated by experimental results obtained for the control of a pilot heat-exchanger unit.
